Our Lady of Sion

This Madonna with child statue was inherited from St Michael's College, Leeds (previously Jesuit) which closed in 2007. The statue was erected in St Augustine's church garden under the title of 'Our Lady of Sion' on 25th March 2009 (feast of the Annunciation)

This title relates to a reported experience of a local Jewish lady in the mid 20th century who felt compelled to go and pray in the garden. When she did go to the garden to pray she had a religous experience and was subsequently baptised Roman Catholic.
