CATECHISTS
There are four different groups
of Catechists working in the Parish:-
BAPTISM
CATECHISTS
Mission Statement:- The Catechists help parents to prepare
for the Baptism of their child.
The Catechists arrange two meetings with parents where
they show some videos provided by the Diocese (Cafe). The videos
are stopped from time to time to enable a short discussion and answer
any questions that may arise. The meetings last about an hour and
parents find them both enjoyable and helpful.
The final meeting includes going through the Rite
of Baptism and Readings and Hymns that parents may wish to include
during the Baptismal service of their child.
CHILDREN'S
LITURGY CATECHISTS
There are two children's Liturgy Groups, one for the 3-8year
olds and the other for 8-11year olds or post First Communion. At
the begining of the 10.00am. Sunday Mass, children are invited to
attend there own liturgy which is prepared by the Catechists. The
children rejoin their parents in church after making a presention
of their work at the Offertory.
FIRST COMMUNION
CATECHISTS
Mission Statement:- The Catechists provide
Pastoral Support to the children preparing to receive the Sacraments
of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist for the first time.
R.C.I.A.
(The Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults)
or
Journey in Faith.
Journey in Faith is a way of welcoming, forming
and initiating new members into the Church. There is no specific
time scale for this process as it depends on the individual. There
are four different sections covered: Sharing the Good News;
Discovering our Faith; The Spiritual Journey; and Travelling On.
Journey in Faith involves the whole parish
and although not everyone can take an active part, everyone can
be involved in welcoming, journeying and celebrating with those
who express an interest in becoming part of the family of the Church.
Those who are actively involved include the priest, catechists,
sponsors, people who offer hospitality, those who will make a special
point of praying for the inquirers and many others. There may also
be members of the parish who may like to join in to brush up on
their own faith.
Journey in Faith is not only about initiating
new members into the community of the Church and helping them to
understand the basic beliefs which they are about to profess, but
also about developing a relationship with God. It is the theory
and practice of faith as a living and growing element in our lives.
The process introduces inquirers to a journey of faith on which
we are all travellers. It is a journey on which we travel together
and we learn from one another.
If you are interested in becoming involved in any
way - as an inquirer or in another capacity; please contact Claire
McLoughlin or Fr Michael who will be happy to discuss the matter
with you.
